Every new tab, a quiet reminder.
You open a new tab hundreds of times a day. Memento makes each one count. It shows the days you likely have left, and how many people the world is losing and gaining right now.
Since you opened this page, 0 people have died and 0 have been born.
Worldwide estimate from World Bank 2024 crude birth and death rates.
Life is not permanent.
In the second it took this page to load, about two people died somewhere in the world. Four were born.
None of them chose the moment.
We act as if time is endless. We put things off, scroll a little longer, and tell ourselves we’ll start tomorrow. But life isn’t a long road. It’s a counter, and it only goes one way.
Memento isn’t here to scare you. It’s here to wake you up.
Every time you open a tab, you’ll see the days you have left and the world’s births and deaths ticking by. It reminds you that this hour won’t come back, that the scroll can wait and the work can’t.
One day, you’ll be one of those numbers.
Until then, make every second count.
What you’ll see, every time
- Days left
- Your life, counted down. Not in years but in days, ticking away while you read this.
- Today, draining
- A thin red bar that empties as the hours pass. Whatever you do with today, it won’t come back.
- Your life so far
- How long you’ve already lived, and how much of your life is already behind you.
- The world, live
- Every second, about two people die and four are born. It’s a quiet reminder that anyone could be next.
- Your shortcuts
- Your favorite sites are one click away, so the reminder never gets in the way of the work.
Make it yours
- Four themes
- Paper, Midnight, Dusk and Ember. Pick the mood your reminder wears.
- Ambient backgrounds
- Falling sand, a rising tide, drifting embers, or a heartbeat that sometimes stops.
- Choose the big number
- Your days left, or today’s deaths in your country or the world.
- Your own background
- Any photo you like. It never leaves your device.
Three questions to start: your birthday, sex and country. That’s it.
Privacy
- What it stores
- Your birthday, sex, country and display settings, your shortcuts, an optional background image, and a 7-day cache of World Bank figures. All of it lives in Chrome’s local storage on your device. Nothing is synced to an account or sent to us.
- What it connects to
- The public World Bank Open Data API (api.worldbank.org), to download life-expectancy, birth-rate, death-rate and population figures. These requests contain none of your data. To show shortcut icons, Chrome loads each shortcut site’s own favicon.
- What it never does
- No accounts, analytics, ads or tracking. No selling or sharing of data. No remote code: everything that runs ships inside the extension.
- Deleting your data
- Remove the extension and Chrome deletes everything it stored. You can also change or clear any setting from the gear icon.
- Where the numbers come from
- Life expectancy, crude birth and death rates and population are the World Bank’s latest figures. Live counters extrapolate those yearly rates and reset at your local midnight. Memento is approximate by design: a warning sign, not a diagnosis.
